Kolkata: After the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections were announced, there have been repeated incidents of violence in the state. Now after the senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's aide was killed on Thursday, five BJP workers were allegedly injured in a bomb attack in Panihati in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, according to reports. 

Where did the incident happen?

Just after the killing of Chandranath Rath, who is a close aide of senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, the bomb attack incident took place on Wednesday night in Panihati area of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, according to media reports.

The bomb blast occurred in the area which is located near the residence of newly elected BJP MLA Ratna Debnath and the mother of the RG Kar Hospital rape victim.

According to police, BJP workers were interacting with residents, when suddenly some unidentified assailants on motorcycle hurled crude bombs at them, injuring at least five people.  

The injured people were immediately admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

What did police say?

The police reached the spot as soon as the information about the incident was received. Central Security Force personnel were also deployed in the area. The police are examining the CCTV footage in the area. The accused are being searched.  

"We have started an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify those involved. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused,” a senior police official was quoted by PTI as saying.

A heavy police deployment has been made in the area. "We are maintaining strict vigil and appealing to people not to spread rumours. Necessary steps are being taken to maintain peace," the officer added.
