Regional News: In Hindu tradition, Choti Diwali is observed one day before the main Diwali. It falls on the fourteenth day of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. In 2025, astrologers confirm that Choti Diwali will be celebrated on October 19. This day is also known as Naraka Chaturdashi, Roop Chaturdashi, or Roop Chaudas. Devotees light lamps for Lord Yama and worship Hanuman, which is believed to bring good fortune and blessings.
According to ancient beliefs, Choti Diwali marks the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura. People celebrate this day to remember the end of evil and welcome positivity. Lighting lamps for Yama, the God of Death, is considered auspicious on this day. Families also decorate their homes with small diyas and perform rituals. The spiritual significance is not only about destroying evil but also about purifying life with light and faith.
The main Diwali, also known as Badi Diwali or Deepawali, will be celebrated on October 20, 2025. This falls on the Amavasya tithi of Kartik month. The date is considered highly important because it combines Pradosh Kaal, Nishith Kaal, and Maha Nishith Kaal. These timings make October 20 the most auspicious day for Diwali puja. Astrologers have clearly stated that this year’s festival will bring special positive energy for households.
Diwali is incomplete without the worship of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees believe that performing this puja brings happiness, wealth, and prosperity into their lives. For 2025, the puja muhurat has been fixed from 7:08 PM to 8:18 PM. This one-hour eleven-minute period is considered highly sacred. Families will gather, light diyas, chant prayers, and offer sweets during this special time. The combination of devotion and celebration makes Diwali unique.
According to the Hindu Panchang, the Amavasya tithi will begin on October 20 at 3:44 PM and continue until October 21 at 5:54 PM. The Pradosh Kaal runs from 5:46 PM to 8:18 PM, while the Vrishabha Kaal extends from 7:08 PM to 9:03 PM. These timings are most suitable for conducting Lakshmi-Ganesh puja. Observing the rituals within this period is said to enhance the blessings of wealth and peace for families.
As the dates approach, markets across the country will be decorated with lights, flowers, and sweets. Families will begin preparations with shopping, cleaning, and decorating their homes. Choti Diwali adds to the excitement as people light early lamps, buy gifts, and gather with loved ones. Firecrackers, though debated, remain a part of the celebrations for many households. The entire country will glow with colors, music, and devotion during the Diwali weekend.
Diwali is not only a religious festival but also a social and cultural celebration. It unites families, neighbors, and communities in joy. For business owners, it marks the beginning of a new financial year, while for children, it is a time of gifts and fun. The 2025 Diwali, falling on October 19 and 20, is expected to be celebrated with great enthusiasm. Beyond rituals, the message of light conquering darkness remains the heart of the festival.
