This year, the tenth day of the bright fortnight of the Jyeshtha month begins at 4:30 am on Monday, May 25, 2026, and will end at 5:10 am on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Therefore, according to the rising date, Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Bathing in the holy river Ganga on the day of Ganga Dussehra has special significance. On this day, bathe before sunrise. After this, standing in the river Ganga, you can offer arghya to the Sun God. After this, wear clean clothes. Then start Ganga Puja. First offer flowers, Akshat, Sindoor, sweets etc. to Mother Ganga, make a lamp from flour and light a ghee lamp. After this, offer it to Mother Ganga. Along with this, after reciting the mantra of Mother Ganga and Ganga Stuti, finally perform Ganga Aarti. Along with this, performing Ganga Aarti in the evening has special significance.
Ganga Dussehra holds special significance in Hinduism. On this day, Mother Ganga descended and saved the ancestors of King Bhagiratha. For this reason, Ganga Dussehra is also known as Ganga Avtaran Divas.
