Auto News: Car buyers in Pakistan are facing record prices on even basic vehicles and several Indian models cost three to five times more across the border and high taxes make cars unaffordable and the country has very limited local manufacturing and inflation continues to affect every sector and import restrictions add more pressure and this combination drives prices to extreme levels.
The difference between India and Pakistan is huge and many cars under 10 lakh rupees in India cost above 40 lakh Pakistani rupees and Swift is one example and it sells in India at a very low price but touches 44.60 lakh PKR in Pakistan and this shows how difficult ownership has become and families now avoid new cars due to high costs and options remain very limited.
Toyota Fortuner fans in Pakistan are shocked by its pricing and the base model costs 1.49 crore PKR and this is far higher than India where the SUV starts at 33.64 lakh INR and buyers call it completely out of reach and import rules and added duties push the cost up and it becomes a luxury meant for very few and many people compare Indian prices with frustration.
Suzuki Swift Gen 3 is sold in Pakistan at 44.60 lakh PKR and this is nearly 13.89 lakh INR in value and in India the same car starts at only 5.37 lakh INR and people question why such a simple hatchback is unaffordable and lack of local production increases the dependence on imports and every imported part adds extra tax and the final price becomes extremely high.
WagonR is one of the most popular cars in India and it starts around 4.98 lakh INR and in Pakistan the same WagonR costs around 32 lakh PKR and this huge difference surprises everyone and Pakistani buyers struggle to upgrade their vehicles and even small families cannot afford basic models and the rising prices reflect the country’s economic challenges and limited automotive industry.
The older Gen 4 Honda City is still sold in Pakistan and its base model with a 1.2-liter engine costs 47.37 lakh PKR and India saw the top ZX CVT variant priced at 14.31 lakh INR before discontinuation and Pakistan’s cost remains almost triple and this shows how inflation, taxes and import duties reshape the segment and buyers hesitate to invest in sedans and the market shrinks slowly.
Toyota Hilux or Revo is another highly priced vehicle in Pakistan and its starting price is 1.23 crore PKR nearly 38.31 lakh INR and India sells Hilux at 28.02 lakh INR and again the difference is massive and taxes on imported pickups increase the final rate sharply and middle-class buyers cannot dream of such vehicles and the high cost reflects the overall crisis in Pakistan’s car market.
