Japan Mobility Show 2025: Maruti Victoris’ CBG Variant Steals the Spotlight, India ExcelsJapan Mobil (X/Maruti)

Japan Mobility Show 2025: Just as the India Mobility Global Auto Expo is a celebration of cars in India, Japan's Japan Mobility Show is equally impressive. This year's show will run from October 30th to November 9th, 2025, and Suzuki (Maruti's mother!) will showcase several made-in-India models. The hottest one will be the CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) variant of the Maruti Victoris! Launched in September, the Victoris is currently available in petrol, hybrid, and CNG, but this new CBG version will become an environmental superhero. Let's get into the details!

Victoris CBG Highlights: The Magic of Green Fuel

It will be powered by the same 1.5-liter petrol engine as the CNG model but tuned for CBG. CBG is super clean—CNG comes from fossil fuels, but CBG comes from organic waste: crop residues and animal dung! This will reduce carbon emissions, clean up waste, and increase rural jobs. The prototype will be showcased at the Japan show, after which Maruti will consider a commercial launch in India. What a treat, Indian tech on the global stage!

Current Victoris engine options

Currently, the Victoris is available in three flavors. Here's the table—easy to understand:

Variants Engine Power Torque Transmission Mileage
Petrol + CNG 1.5L 4-cylinder 87.8 PS (CNG), 100 PS (Petrol) 121.5 Nm (CNG), 137 Nm (Petrol)  5-speed MT 27.02 km/kg
Mild Hybrid Petrol 1.5L 4-cylinder 103 PS 139 Nm 5-speed MT 6-speed AT

21.18 kmpl (MT), 21.06 kmpl (AT), 19.07 kmpl (AWD)

Strong Hybrid Petrol 1.5L 3-cylinder 116 PS (Combined) 141 Nm

eCVT

28.65 kmpl

Price and Competition: The King of Budget SUVs?

The Victoris is available in India at prices ranging from Rs 10.50 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The competition includes the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Tata Curvv, Citroen Basalt, and its very own Grand Vitara! A CBG version will be a big hit in the green SUV segment.
