New Delhi: Amidst the global energy crisis and increasing tension in West Asia, the effect of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for fuel saving is now visible on the ground. The PM had called upon the countrymen to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel, adopt public transport and electric vehicles. After this, from the center to the states, leaders and officers have started reducing their convoys. BJP MP and former Delhi State President Manoj Tiwari has set an example by purchasing Maruti Suzuki's new electric SUV e-Vitara.

What example is given from Instagram video?

Manoj Tiwari posted a video on Instagram showing him going to the airport in his new e-Vitara. He said that following the prime minister's call, it is the duty of every citizen to adopt future technology like EVs and eco-friendly mobility. In the video, Tiwari also appealed to his security guards to travel in their own cars instead of separate vehicles, so that the convoy vehicles could save fuel. He also enumerated the benefits of carpooling.

What appeal did PM Modi make?

PM Modi had recently appealed to the countrymen in a rally in Hyderabad and subsequently in several forums to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption. He had said that people should use public transport, metro, carpooling and move towards electric vehicles. The PM himself has reduced the vehicles in his convoy by 50 percent and directed the SPG to reduce the number of vehicles without compromising on security. He also said that EVs should be promoted in their fleet, but new vehicles should not be purchased.

Impact from union ministers to chief ministers?

After the PM's appeal, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have reduced the number of vehicles in their convoy by more than half. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh left the petrol car and reached the ministry in EV. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced limiting the number of government vehicles and said that ministers-MLAs will give priority to carpooling and public transport. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reduced the convoy by five vehicles, now eight vehicles will run instead of 13. UP CM Yogi Adityanath gave instructions to reduce the convoy by 50 percent and promote virtual meetings and work from home.
