New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz has launched its highly anticipated CLA electric car in the Indian market. The starting ex-showroom price for this magnificent luxury electric vehicle has been set at ₹55 lakh. The company has introduced the car in three variants: Standard Range, Long Range, and a special 'Launch Edition'. Notably, more than 400 customers had already booked the vehicle even before the prices were officially announced. This marks Mercedes' first car in India to be built upon the new 'MMA' platform. Let's take a detailed look at the features, driving range, and pricing of this newly launched vehicle.
In terms of performance, the motor powering the top-tier CLA Electric model (CLA 250+) generates 268 bhp of power and 335 Nm of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the base model is also quite robust, delivering 221 bhp of power. For speed enthusiasts, the top speed has been capped at 210 km/h. Mercedes has specifically tuned the suspension system to suit Indian road conditions.
The company claims that the Long Range variant can travel up to 792 kilometers (WLTP) on a single full charge. Furthermore, when it comes to charging, the vehicle is incredibly fast. Notably, by charging it for just 20 minutes using a 240 kW DC fast charger, you can cover a distance of up to 400 kilometers. Mercedes has also significantly strengthened its charging network across India; customers now have access to over 9,000 charging points nationwide.
In terms of design, the new CLA looks incredibly sporty and modern. Its sloping roofline and distinctive shark-like nose give it a unique and striking appearance. The car's front grille features 142 small, shimmering stars. Inside, the dashboard features a 'Superscreen' equipped with an intelligent virtual assistant powered by ChatGPT-4 and Gemini. Additionally, it includes safety features such as Level-2 ADAS.
To make ownership more accessible, Mercedes has introduced several attractive schemes. Customers can take the car home with an initial EMI starting at ₹62,000. Furthermore, a 59% 'buyback' guarantee is also being offered. The company has also introduced a 'High-Voltage Battery Report' in India for the first time; this will provide customers with accurate information regarding the health of their car's battery. Deliveries for the CLA 250+ Long Range are scheduled to commence by the end of April 2026, while the standard model will become available starting in June.
