New Delhi: Toyota India is set to further strengthen its presence in the Indian electric car market. In line with this, the company will be launching its new electric SUV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, on January 19, 2026. This car will essentially be a badge-engineered version of Maruti's upcoming e Vitara.

After its launch, the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to directly compete with mid-size electric SUVs like the Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE 6, and VinFast VF 6. Let's delve into the details.

What is the expected range?

In terms of battery and motor options, the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to feature the same setup as the Maruti e Vitara. It may offer a 144bhp motor with a 49kWh battery and a 174bhp motor with a 61kWh battery.

Official figures for the single-charge range are not yet available. However, it is believed that the larger battery pack could offer a range of approximately 543 kilometers on the ARAI cycle.

What is the possible design?

Regarding the design, the international-spec Urban Cruiser EV looks quite similar to the e Vitara. It features sleek LED headlamps and DRLs, a front look connected by a black trim in the center, and a smooth bumper with vertical air vents on the sides. Additionally, it features aero-optimized alloy wheels, likely 18-inch in size. It will be interesting to see if any design changes are made to the Urban Cruiser EV launched in India.

What are the expected features?

Inside the cabin, it is expected to offer premium features such as a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, and an Infinity sound system.

According to a report published in Autocar India, for safety, it may come equipped with features such as Level-2 ADAS, 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, disc brakes on all four wheels, an electronic parking brake, and AVAS.
