New Delhi: Toyota has finally revealed its first electric car for India officially. This mid-size SUV named Urban Cruiser EV will be fully revealed tomorrow. It is clear from the teaser that the company is designing a familiar yet modern electric package keeping the Indian customers in mind, with emphasis on usability rather than looks.
The design of the Urban Cruiser EV is very similar to the concept that was shown at the Auto Expo 2025. Thin LED headlamps have been provided at the front. Eyebrow shape DRLs are visible above them. The bonnet is slightly raised, which makes the stance of the car look strong.
A traditional grill is not provided in this SUV. The front part is completely closed, which makes it different from petrol and diesel cars. Black finish elements and a precisely placed ADAS sensor make the front look clean and neat.
The charging port has been placed above the front fender. This makes cable management easier during charging. Light EV badging has also been provided on the body, due to which the identity of the car stands out.
Viewed from the side, the Urban Cruiser EV looks similar to its platform partner Maruti e Vitara. However, Toyota has kept the body lines softer. This makes the SUV look more premium and balanced. It is expected to get 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
The teaser does not show a glimpse of the interior. But it is believed that its cabin layout will be similar to the Vitara. Differences can be seen in color theme and finish. The dashboard design is expected to be clean and modern.
A large touchscreen infotainment system can be provided in the Urban Cruiser EV. A digital instrument cluster will be available with it. Features like a two-spoke steering wheel, ventilated front seats and electric driver seat may also be included.
Toyota wants to make this electric SUV stronger in terms of safety. It is likely to get multiple airbags, level-2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, parking sensors, and electronic stability control.
There is talk of getting two battery options in the Urban Cruiser EV. Both small and large battery packs may be available. With the large battery pack, it is expected to have a range of more than 500 kilometers on a single charge.
The model coming to India will be front-wheel drive. This car will focus on a comfortable drive and everyday use instead of high speed.
After launch, the Urban Cruiser EV will compete with vehicles like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor, the Mahindra BE 6, and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV. Maruti e Vitara is considered to be its closest platform-sharing rival.
Through this electric SUV, Toyota is targeting those customers who want to move towards EV for the first time. A trusted brand, a well-known design and a strong safety package can become its biggest strengths.
