Bihar Man Walks Into Police Station With Live Crocodile On His Shoulders

Supaul: A farmer in Supaul district of Bihar reached the police station carrying a live crocodile on his shoulders, following its recue from a paddy field. The officials informed the forest department about finding the crocodile. After this, it was rescued and released in the river. The incident which was captured on video, has since gone viral on social media, prompting reactions.

Where did the incident happen?

The incident took place in Lalpur Ward-14 of Bhimnagar police station area. The sudden appearance of a nearly five-foot crocodile in a paddy field on Friday created a sensation in the entire area. As soon as the farmers working in the field saw the crocodile, there was chaos. Within no time, a crowd of hundreds of villagers gathered at the spot.

Did the farmers capture the reptile?

After the initial scare, some people showed courage and caught the crocodile and tied it with a rope without causing it any harm. One young man, who is identified as Amit Kumart, then carried it on his shoulders to the police station, a video of which is now going viral in the area. People were stunned after the video of the entire incident surfaced.

Where did the villagers spot the crocodile?

According to eyewitnesses, the villagers were initially alarmed when they saw a crocodile suddenly roaming in the paddy field, but later displayed courage and presence of mind. Instead of rushing into action or causing any harm, the villagers carefully captured the crocodile safely and immediately informed the Forest Department in Veerpur. However, when they did not receive an immediate response, a young men tied the crocodile's mouth with a rope, carried it over their shoulders, and reached the Bhimnagar police station.

Did the police release the crocodile?

Following information from Station House Officer Manish Kumar, a Forest Department team arrived at Bhimnagar Police Station and took the crocodile into custody and conducted a health check. The crocodile was found to be completely healthy. 
Following the completion of departmental procedures, it was safely released into its natural habitat, the Kosi River. 

Forest Department officer Ravi Ranjan stated that the rescued crocodile was approximately 4 feet 16 inches long. He added that during the rainy season, due to rising river levels and interconnected waterways, many wild animals, including crocodiles, reach farms and residential areas. 

He said that in such cases, instead of panicking or taking personal risks, people should immediately inform the Forest Department.

The Forest Department has appealed to the public that if they see a crocodile or any other wild animal, they should refrain from spreading rumors or harming it and should immediately inform the department so that a trained team can safely rescue it and release it back into its natural habitat.
