New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the 8th Pay Commission. As per this update of the 8th pay commission, the salaries of around 50 lakh central government employees will be revised and benefits of around 69 lakh pensioners.

What Ashwini Vaishnaw said?

In his statement, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the government has aprooved the 8th pay commission’s composition, mandate and timelines.

The panel made for the 8th pay commission will submit its recommendations within 18 months. The revised pay structure is likely to rollout from January 1, 2026.

What announcements were made related to 8th Pay Commission?

As per the latest announcement related to 8th pay commission, after the briefing of the cabinet on Tuesday, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that after consultation with ministries, state governments and staff side of joint Consultative machinery, the Terms of Reference was finalised. 

It is to be mentioned here that the government in July informed in Parliament that it had asked inputs from major stakeholders, including the the department of personnel and training, defence and home ministries, on setting up the 8th Central Pay Commission.

Taking to his X, Ashwini Vaishnaw posted, ''Cabinet approved Terms of Reference of 8th Central Pay Commission.'' He further added, ''To make recommendations within 18 months of constitution. Will cover ~50 lakh Central Government employees and ~69 lakh pensioners.''

When the revised pay scale will be implemented?

Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, talking about the implementation of the revised pay scales for the employees and pensioners, said that the implementation would be done "once the recommendations are made by the 8th CPC and are accepted by the government".

It is worthy to be mentioned here that the pay commission is constituted by the Centre after every 10 years in order to revise the pay of government employees.

When will the 8th pay commission be implemented?

As the cabinet has approved the 8th pay commission, it is worthy to be added here that the 8th Pay Commission is likely to be implemented from January 1, 2026.
