MDH, the Indian spice company, encountered several rejections in the United States before facing a ban in Hong Kong. This development has stemmed from concerns regarding the quality, safety, or compliance of MDH products. According to the sources, the spice mix has been found contaminated with the presence of bacteria, following which Hong Kong and Singapore have banned the contaminated products.

According to the report, the specific reasons behind the rejections and the subsequent ban from the United States were due to the presence of Salmonella, a bacteria that leads to gastrointestinal illness. The sources have claimed that around 20% of 65 shipments were rejected by the United States after it failed to check the presence of Salmonella between October 2023 and March 2024. However, the quantity that was contained in the shipment has not been disclosed by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Before this, almost 15% of 119 MDH shipments were rejected by the US in the financial year 2022-23. Whereas, one out of 450 Everest shipments were rejected by the nation. In 2019 also, the IS removed some of the spice mixes from the shelves across the US. It is worth noting that Hong Kong and Singapore also banned the three blends of the spices because of the same reason.

Spice blends of both companies have a high-level of cancer-causing pesticides that is unfit for human consumption.
