Court slaps fine of THIS much amount after Swiggy fails to deliver Rs 549 sweets

Often are we dissatisfied with our online orders, be it clothes or food. But what happens if your order never arrives on time or it can cancel your order and it can cause you mental harrasment. Yes, you read it right! Recently, a consumer court in Ahmedabad has ordered food delivery platform Swiggy to compensate a customer for mental harassment caused by a cancelled order. 

What's full matter? 

Prasad Kanade, a resident of Bhadra, Ahmedabad had ordered on Swiggy in November 2022 but never received it. He paid Rs 549 for the order but only received a refund of Rs 445. Also, the cancellation was not informed by Swiggy. 

What Swiggy said? 

Swiggy said that Kanade had himself cancelled the order and the food delivery acts as intermediary, connecting customers with restaurants and delivery agents and should not be held responsible for order issues. 

What consumer court said? 

The court ruled in favour of Kanade and pointed out that Swiggy accepted payment for the service, making them a service provider responsible for it. The Ahmedabad consumer court has asked Swiggy to refund the remaining Rs 104 with 9% interest which means Rs 1000 as compensation.
