Mumbai CNG Prices Hit Rs 84/kg as MGL Hikes Rates Again, Auto Fare Hike Demand Grows (X)
Mumbai: Mumbaikars are about to find themselves in a tight spot once again. Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices have been increased again in Mumbai. The new CNG prices have come into effect on Thursday in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has decided to increase the price of CNG by Rs 2 per kilogram taking the retail rate to Rs 84 per kg.
The general public in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has once again hit by inflation. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the price of CNG by Rs 2 per kg. These new rates have been implemented with immediate effect in the entire MMR region, including Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. Following the increase, the retail price of CNG in MMR now stands at Rs 84 per kg from earlier rate Rs 82 per kg.
These new prices aren't limited to Mumbai alone. MGL stated that the increased prices will be effective across the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mira Bhayandar, and Kalyan-Dombivli. This means millions of vehicle owners across the region will face a direct financial burden.
The biggest impact of the increase in CNG prices is on public transportation. Considered Mumbai's lifeline, the black-and-yellow taxis and auto-rickshaws rely entirely on CNG. Consequently, driver unions are bound to demand fare increases. If taxi and auto fares increase in the coming days, it will directly impact the pockets of Mumbai's average commuter.
Mahanagar Gas Limited cited fluctuations in international gas prices as the primary reason for the increase. However, consumers are unhappy with the decision, as this is the second time in the past few months that CNG prices have been raised.
