New Delhi: There was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel across the country on July 31. Fuel prices have remained stable since the last revision on May 25. Despite fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market, it has not affected Indian consumers at present. Meanwhile, the central government has also clarified its position on the ongoing discussions regarding E20 petrol.

What are the latest prices of petrol and diesel today?

The prices of petrol and diesel remained the same in major cities of the country on Friday.

What did the government say about E20 petrol?

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has said that there is no evidence of large-scale engine damage to vehicles due to the use of E20 petrol. According to the ministry, this conclusion has been drawn on the basis of several years of study, records of vehicle companies and actual usage.

The government claims that crores of two-wheelers and petrol cars in the country have been using ethanol blended fuel for a long time and no widespread damage to the engines has been confirmed so far.

Does E20 reduce mileage?

According to the government, the mileage of some old model vehicles may reduce by 3 to 5 percent. However, its effect is very limited. The ministry says that vehicle service, driving style, traffic and correct tyre pressure have a greater impact on mileage.

Why are crude oil prices in discussion?

In the international market, Brent crude is trading around 87 dollars per barrel. There is uncertainty in the global oil market due to increasing tension between America and Iran and the situation in West Asia.

Can petrol and diesel become expensive in India?

India imports most of its crude oil needs. At present, government oil companies have not made any change in the prices of petrol and diesel. However, if crude oil prices in the international market remain high for a long time, fuel prices may be reviewed in future.
