New Delhi: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, is set to visit Brussels, Belgium, on October 27–28 for a series of high-level discussions with Maros Sefcovic, the Executive Vice-President and European Commissioner for Trade at the European Union. Goyal’s visit comes at a critical stage in the ongoing India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, both sides are actively working to conclude a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade pact at the earliest. The minister’s visit is expected to inject new momentum and direction into the dialogue, following the progress achieved during the 14th round of FTA talks held earlier this month.

Focus on Trade and Regulatory Issues

During his meetings, discussions are expected to cover major aspects of the proposed trade deal. These include market access for goods and services, non-tariff barriers, and regulatory cooperation between the two sides. The visit will also help both teams review the progress achieved so far and find areas where more agreement is needed.

Strengthening India-EU Economic Ties

While in Brussels, Minister Goyal will hold a bilateral meeting with Commissioner Sefcovic, followed by a working dinner. Both leaders are expected to reaffirm their shared goal of building a stronger trade and economic partnership between India and the European Union. The visit takes place at a time when the India-EU partnership has gained new importance, following the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier this year. During that meeting, both leaders stressed the need for a future-focused trade relationship that promotes prosperity, sustainability, and innovation on both sides.

Turning Shared Vision into Action

Piyush Goyal’s visit to Brussels is seen as an important step in turning this shared vision into real results. It highlights India’s strong commitment to expanding its relationship with the European Union, one of its biggest trading partners. The goal is to reach an agreement that strengthens supply chains, encourages sustainable development, and supports a fair and transparent global trading system.

Continued Engagement with Europe

Before heading to Belgium, Minister Goyal will complete his visit to Germany. His series of meetings in Europe underline India’s determination to build closer economic cooperation with the EU and create long-term opportunities for both sides through a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.
