Delhi University's St Stephen's College Bans Shorts On Campus, Students Call It Moral Policing

New Delhi: Delhi University's St. Stephen's College recently issued a notice to students regarding the banning of wearing shorts inside some specific areas of the campus. 

After the completion of the admission procedure in the University of Delhi, regular classes have started in colleges. DU's St. Stephen's College issued a notice for the students banning the wearing of shorts in certain places inside the college campus. This decision of the college was made after many students were seen wearing shorts on the college campus on the very first day.  As per the notice, students are prohibited from wearing shorts in classrooms, the assembly hall, the library, the dining hall, and the chapel.

What is the notice for first-year students?

The college authorities have placed notices regarding the dress code for the first-year students and instruct them to follow it strictly. The notice is officially signed by the college principal, Susan Elias. But the senior students claim that this notice applies to them also.

What was the reaction of the students?

A debate has started in the University of Delhi regarding this notice. Many students have blamed the college authorities for intervening in their choice of clothes. Some students have called it moral policing. Other students feel that it was just a cultural rule and would not be followed strictly.

Which students are most affected by this new rule?

The sports players of the college are most affected by this rule. These students used to come in the morning with their sports kit, which was mostly shorts. Some students have claimed that many times these sporting students were denied entry into the dining hall because of shorts. 

The university has not issued any official notice clarifying this new rule.
