New Delhi: Navneet Rana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament representing Amravati, stirred controversy during her campaign in Hyderabad, targeting the Owaisi brothers without directly mentioning their names.

Open threats during campaign

In a fiery speech supporting BJP candidate Madhavi Lata, Rana referenced a past controversial statement made by AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. Without explicitly naming them, she aimed her remarks at the Owaisi brothers, suggesting repercussions if the police were removed for even a brief period.

Controversial statement revisited

Rana reiterated Akbaruddin Owaisi's 2013 statement, where he implied that without police intervention, Muslims could overpower Hindus within a short timeframe. She countered by insinuating swift retaliation from the Hindu community if given the opportunity.

Appeal to voters

Emphasizing the significance of the election, Rana urged voters to prioritize national interests, warning against the transformation of Hyderabad into a Pakistan-like state. She advocated for BJP candidate Madhavi Lata, emphasizing her as a symbol of Hindu representation in Parliament.

Criticism from AIMIM

AIMIM leader Waris Pathan condemned Rana's remarks as baseless and nonsensical, questioning the role of law enforcement and the Election Commission in addressing such provocative statements. Pathan called for strict action against Rana's inflammatory rhetoric.

Political journey of Navneet Rana

Rana's political journey has been marked by controversial statements, including her previous remark during the Gujarat election campaign, where she suggested those unwilling to chant "Jai Shri Ram" should relocate to Pakistan. Initially elected as an independent candidate with backing from the Congress and NCP in Maharashtra's Amravati Lok Sabha constituency, Rana joined the BJP in March and has been nominated by the party for re-election in Amravati.
