Rajpal Yadav Gets No Unconditional Relief From SC, Must Deposit Rs 5 Crore To Avoid Surrender

New Delhi: The troubles of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav are not over yet. The court has definitely given the actor a way to avoid surrender after he approached the Supreme Court against the three-month sentence given in seven cheque bounce cases, but for this he has set a condition of depositing Rs 5 crore. The Supreme Court has said that if this amount is deposited in the court registry by September 9, then Rajpal Yadav will not have to surrender. The next hearing of the case will be on September 15.

What is the matter?

This entire matter is related to the financial transactions that took place during the production of the film 'Aata Pata Lapata'. Film producer and financier company Murali Projects Private Limited had filed seven complaints against Rajpal Yadav, his wife Radha Rajpal Yadav and their production company. The allegation was that seven cheques given for payment bounced in the bank. After this, cases were filed under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

What decision did the Delhi High Court give?

Delhi High Court had upheld the conviction of Rajpal Yadav on 10 July 2026. The court had sentenced him to three months simple imprisonment in all seven cases. The High Court had also directed the complainant to pay the amount. Also, the actor was given two months time to approach the Supreme Court. The last date of his surrender was fixed as September 10.

Why did the Supreme Court ask to deposit Rs 5 crore?

During the hearing held in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, a demand was made on behalf of Rajpal Yadav for exemption from surrender. Instead of giving direct relief, the court imposed a condition of depositing Rs 5 crore. The court said that after the amount is deposited in the registry, they will be given interim exemption from surrender. Also, notice has been issued to the other party on his petition.

Is Rajpal Yadav's sentence over?

No. The Supreme Court order does not mean that the actor's conviction or three-month sentence is over. At present, they can get conditional interim relief only by surrendering. For this it is necessary to deposit Rs 5 crore. In the further hearing, the Supreme Court will consider his petition and the decision of the High Court.

How much has already been paid?

During the previous proceedings of the case, information about payment of about Rs 4.25 crore was given by Rajpal Yadav. There is mention in the records of Delhi High Court that an amount of about Rs 2.25 crore has already been given to the complainant. The High Court had directed the adjustment of this amount in further liabilities.

When will Rajpal Yadav's next hearing be held?

The Supreme Court has issued notice on the actor's plea and listed the matter for September 15. Now the focus will be on whether Rajpal Yadav is able to deposit Rs 5 crore in the stipulated time or not and what stance the court takes regarding his punishment and conviction in the next hearing.
