Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Naveen Jindal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won in the Haryana's Kurukshetra constituency with a margin of 29,021 votes defeating Dr Sushil Gupta of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Haryana’s Kurukshetra is one of the 10 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in the state, which covers the entire Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts and part of Yamunanagar district.

Three well-known parties were engaged in a triangular struggle for the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat in Haryana.

Industrialist Naveen Jindal, who recently defected from the Congress, has been put forward by the BJP, Sushil Gupta of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was standing for the INDIA bloc, and Abhay Chautala had been nominated by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).

What are the issues?

The demand for a new railway line from Yamunanagar. Making the national highway from Yamunanagar to Kurukshetra and Kaithal four lanes is among the prominent issues in the area. Apart from this, giving Kurukshetra international recognition in the field of tourism has also been an election issue of the Lok Sabha.

Caste equations

According to the sources, there are about 18 lakh voters in the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency. Among them, the number of Jat voters is the highest. Jat voters are 14% and along with this, there are 4% Jat Sikh voters. Brahmin and Saini voters are in second place with 8-8% voters. There are 6% of voters from Punjabi community. While 5% of voters are from Agrawal community. The number of Road voters is 3% and the number of Muslim voters belonging to the general category is 0.5%. Similarly, the number of Christian voters is also 0.5%. The number of Rajput voters is 1.5%.

Who won in 2019?

In 2019, Nayab Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won with 688,629 Votes which was 56% against Nirmal Singh of Congress who got 304,038 Votes (25% votes).

History of Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat

This seat was 1977 the part of Kaithal Lok Sabha seat, having its headquarters in Kaithal. Later, in 1977, Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat came into existence. Elections from 2nd to 5th Lok Sabha were held at the Kaithal Lok Sabha seat.
