Entertainment: A childhood of struggles and failures is the inspiring rags-to-riches story of filmmaker Farah Khan. Born to luxury, Kamran Khan, who got off his career as a stuntman but eventually became a legendary filmmaker, such a childhood replete with festivities is marked by bankruptcy after her father invests in the high-budgeted dud movie, leaving the family literally in destitution, Farah recalling the "tearing" days when she and her kin sold stuff for their debts paid and even resided in a shop room. "We became poor overnight," she says of her descent into despair

Busting down doors

This is where the big break in Bollywood happened, with Saroj Khan walking out of the project and Farah being tasked with creating those dance numbers that would define Bollywood for the next few generations. Her brilliance did not stop at this point but went on in choreography for Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Pehla Nasha, and 1942: A Love Story. She had truly become one of the biggest names in the field of Bollywood choreographers

Shah Rukh Khan and Farah

The most interesting early career anecdote of Farah reveals that she was quite close to Shah Rukh Khan. When Farah was choreographing six songs in the film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa for a very meager ₹30,000, SRK got ₹25,000 for that low-budget movie. Farah was candid, humorously putting out SRK's words when the latter described her as someone who "treats everyone the same way—badly." She said she is treating everybody as equal—from the stars to spot boys. Candidness was the very reason to build a true, powerful friendship, as well as it produced movies like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om

Director and super hits Indian movie maker

Farah Khan proved herself a director by commercially earning a box office hit. Main Hoon Na was her first one, then she went on to give the landmark Om Shanti Om, which grossed as much as ₹148 crores worldwide, and, in 2014, Happy New Year had taken it back with an astonishing worldwide collection of ₹397 crore. The Tees Maar Khan could not do that well, yet the place of Farah Khan is well set among the big-league Bollywood elite
