Chhattisgarh: A chimney in a smelting plant located at Saragaon in the Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh collapsed on Thursday, leaving two employees injured and sending many others feared trapped in the debris. Chimney Collapse Traps Workers in Mungeli

Two injured laborers rescued

Strengthening rescue efforts to bring out the trapped workers, as two have been evacuated so far. Rescue teams, police, and other local authorities launched a concerted operation immediately after the collapse. Two injured workers have been evacuated and taken to Bilaspur Hospital for treatment. The number of those still trapped under the wreckage is yet to be known. Search and rescue operations were under way as the toll appeared to mount. The rescue team had spent a full night trying to reach those trapped beneath the fallen chimney. More reports of workers being trapped under the fallen structure are surfacing while the authorities work day and night to ensure the safety of the remaining laborers and dismantle the debris. The situation is critical, but the full extent of the injuries and the number of people trapped remains undetermined.

The accident has triggered a safety issue among the workers 

It brought to the public eye once more the safety aspect of industrial plants in the region. Many were clamoring for stronger measures in preventing such mishaps from ever occurring again.
