Jyotirmayee Nayak Wins Indian Idol 16, Takes Home Trophy, Rs 20 Lakh Prize (Instagram)
Mumbai: The popular reality show, 'Indian Idol 16' has finally come to an end with 24-year-old Jyotirmayee Nayak from Orissa being declared the winner while Tanishk Shukla from Jabalpur emerged as the first runner-up. Along with the trophy, she also took home a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh.
The grand finale episode was broadcasted on Sunday. The top three competitors were Manraj Veer Singh, Jyotirmayee Nayak and Tanishk Shukla. The judges for this special episode were Badshah, Vishal Dadlani, Kumar Sanu and Shreya Ghoshal while Shehnaaz Gill was also present as a guest.
Jyotirmayee, who created history by becoming the first contestant from Odisha to win Indian Idol, got a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh. In this special episode Jyotirmayee sang 'Saiyan Pakad Baiyaan'. This was the song that helped her become a part of the show.
The second runner up, Manraj Veer Singh, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh by Sony.
The 16th season of Indian Idol was judged by Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah and the show's theme was Yaadon Ki Playlist. The special guests who featured in the finale were Usha Uthup, Udit Narayan, Papon, Kumar Sanu, Shehnaaz Gill, and Urmila Matondkar.
The finale was kicked off by Usha Uthup who came over as a special guest. Kumar Sanu also took everyone back to the 90s with another version of 'Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein' and also sang 'Is Tarah Aashiqui Ka Asar Chhod Jaunga'.
Jyotirmayee Nayak is a 25-year-old singer from Bhubaneswar, Odisha. She, who is born in Rourkela, is the daughter of Chakradhar Nayak and Gauri Nayak.
Other contestants who competed with Jyotirmayee Nayak and Manraj Veer Singh were Tanishk Shukla, Anshika Chonkar, Myscmme Bosu, and Suhail Sufi.
