Kangana Alleges Masaba Gupta Objected to Her Wearing Brand Saree for Ram Janmabhoomi Darshan (Instagram)
Mumbai: Actor and MP Kangana Ranaut has reopened an old chapter from her Bollywood years, sharing a personal account linked to a Ram Janmabhoomi visit and a saree from fashion designer Masaba Gupta.
Taking to X on Saturday, Kangana claimed that fashion designer Masaba Gupta did not want her saree to be worn for the Ayodhya visit, an incident she says left her deeply hurt.
Kangana said the incident happened years ago, just before the release of her film 'Tejas', when she planned to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi site. She had chosen a saree from Masaba Gupta’s label for the occasion. According to Kangana, her stylist later informed her that the designer did not want her saree to be worn for that visit.
The actress claimed she was already travelling from Lucknow to Ayodhya when she received the message.
Designers get very excited whenever their brands get seen on celebrities, have you seen Masaba or her brand handles use these images ? These images were all over the Internet. Can you explain why won’t she use these images or why won’t the stylist tag her?

The actress said she was also told not to tag the designer or mention the brand on social media. Recalling the moment now, Kangana wrote that the memory still makes her “sick to the stomach,” describing it as an example of prejudice and bitterness within parts of the entertainment industry.
She stressed that her faith and personal choices should not have been questioned or judged.
Kangana brought up the incident while responding to recent debates around alleged bias and “communal” attitudes in the film industry. She linked her experience to what she described as a larger pattern of selective acceptance and silent exclusion.
Her remarks quickly gained traction online, triggering sharp reactions and renewed discussion around freedom of personal expression in Bollywood.
As of now, Masaba Gupta has not issued any public statement in response to Kangana Ranaut’s claims. Her team has also remained silent on the matter.
Kangana continues to be vocal on social media, often blending personal experiences with broader industry commentary.
On the work front, she was last seen in 'Emergency', where she portrayed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and remains active in both cinema and politics.
