Medha Rana to Star Opposite Varun Dhawan in Border 2, Film to Release in 2026

Actor Medha Rana has officially been signed as the female lead in the much-awaited film Border 2, the next chapter to JP Dutta’s iconic 1997 film Border. The film’s team officially announced the news on Tuesday.

Sharing the update on social media, the makers welcomed Medha to the cast, writing, “Every story finds its people. We’re excited to welcome #MedhaRana to the #Border2 team as the female lead opposite #VarunDhawan. Get ready for an epic story of bravery and patriotism when 'Border 2' hits theatres on January 23, 2026.

Fans showed excitement over the update, adding to the growing buzz about the film. Medha also expressed her happiness and thanked the makers for the opportunity. Varun Dhawan welcomed Medha on Instagram with the message, “Welcome to the movies, Medha #Border2.” Medha is recognised for her performances in digital shows such as Ishq in the Air on MX Player, Friday Night Plan on Netflix, and London Files on Voot.

Chosen for Talent and Cultural Fit

Medha comes from an army background and was selected for her natural connection to the film's setting. Producer Bhushan Kumar shared that Medha was chosen for her strong command of the regional language and her emotional depth as an actor.

“It was important for us to find someone who naturally represents the region, both in dialect and emotion. Medha stood out with her raw talent and ability to connect with the character’s roots,” he told Variety.

The film also features Sunny Deol, reprising his iconic role as an Indian soldier, along with Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh. Additional cast members will be announced soon.

Filming for Border 2 is already in progress. Sunny, Diljit, and Ahan have finished their shooting schedules. The film is being directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. It is scheduled to hit theatres on January 23, 2026.
