Shah Rukh Khan, popularly known as Bollywood’s ‘King Khan,’ earned massive success from his last three films, once again proving his dominance in the industry. However, he took a five-year break from acting, which left his fans a little disappointed. But his return showed how rewarding patience can be. Currently, there’s a lot of buzz around his upcoming film King.

Did you know that Shah Rukh once turned down several films that later became major blockbusters and helped elevate the careers of stars like Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan, and Anil Kapoor? Let’s look at five major films Shah Rukh rejected:

A. Lagaan (2001)

The lead role in Lagaan was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan, but he wasn’t impressed with the story. He even suggested director Ashutosh Gowariker cast Aamir Khan instead. Aamir took the role, and the film went on to reach the Oscars. Made on a budget of Rs 25 crore, the movie earned Rs 65 crore.

B. Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003)

The role of Munna in Rajkumar Hirani’s iconic film was initially offered to Shah Rukh. However, due to his back surgery at the time, he had to turn it down. The role then went to Sanjay Dutt, and the film became a massive hit. With a budget of Rs 10 crore, it earned Rs 33 crore.

C. 3 Idiots (2009)

Shah Rukh was also offered the role of Rancho in 3 Idiots, but he declined due to scheduling conflicts. Aamir Khan stepped in, and the film became a box-office sensation. Produced on a Rs 55 crore budget, it grossed around Rs 400 crore worldwide.

D. Rang De Basanti (2006)

Reportedly, the role played by Aamir Khan in Rang De Basanti was first offered to Shah Rukh. However, he was busy shooting for his film Paheli and had to decline. This film, made on a Rs 30 crore budget, earned Rs 97 crore.

E. Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

In this Hollywood-Bollywood crossover, Shah Rukh was offered the role of the quizmaster. He wasn’t interested in the character, so the part went to Anil Kapoor, whose performance was widely appreciated. Though this decision may not have benefited Shah Rukh, it significantly boosted Anil Kapoor’s global profile.
