New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has responded to US President Donald Trump's statement regarding PM Modi. The Ministry of External Affairs stated on Thursday that it has not yet received any such video. If so, it will investigate and take appropriate action. The Ministry's comments come in response to Donald Trump's statement that he could ruin PM Modi's political career if he wanted to, but he doesn't want to.
India's Ministry of External Affairs has responded to US President Donald Trump's infamous statement, "I don't want to ruin it." This earlier statement was directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's political career. The Ministry of External Affairs stated on Thursday that "appropriate action" would be taken in this matter. In a statement made in October last year, Trump had jokingly stated that he did not want to ruin Prime Minister Modi's political career. This comment came amid tensions in US-India relations over the trade deal and the purchase of oil from Russia. Speaking to reporters, Trump had said, "Modi is a great man... He loves Trump... I don't want to ruin his political career."
Responding to Trump's statement, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a press conference, "I have not seen the video. However, if such a video exists, whether true or false, we will take appropriate action on it." During the press conference, the Indian Foreign Ministry stated that India has received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the "Board of Peace." "Currently, every aspect of the invitation is being monitored and reviewed," he informed.
Responding to a question at a press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have received an invitation from the US government and have been asked to join the Board of Peace. We are reviewing the proposal." The spokesperson further stated that India has consistently supported efforts to promote peace, stability, and dialogue in West Asia. "Our Prime Minister has supported all initiatives that pave the way for long-term and sustainable peace in the entire region, including Gaza."

Following the trade deal with the US, Trump's statement has quickly gone viral on social media. It is being portrayed as a threat by the US President to Prime Minister Modi. However, if the original video is to be viewed, Trump made this comment jokingly. After the video went viral, journalists questioned Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during his weekly media briefing, stating that he had not seen the video, but that if such a video existed, "appropriate action would be taken." Jaiswal stated sternly, "I have not seen the video... However, if such a video exists, whether true or false, we will take appropriate action."
US President Trump first praised Prime Minister Modi on October 15, 2025. At that time, Trump claimed that India had assured the US that it would stop purchasing oil from Russia. However, India later denied any such assurance. Speaking at the White House, Trump praised Prime Minister Modi, calling him a "great man" and a leader who has stood the test of time. He emphasized that Prime Minister Modi likes Trump. Trump then paused for a moment and added that the words "love" or "like" should not be taken in the wrong sense, as he does not want to "ruin Prime Minister Modi's political career."
