Islamabad: Pakistan Chief of Defence Forces and  Army chief Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Wednesday strongly objected to what he described as "unacceptable" the alleged use of Afghanistan soil for terrorist activities against the country.

What did Asim Munir say?

Asim Munir on Wednesday visited the Wana area of South Waziristan to review the security situation.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army's media wing, Munir during his visit reviewed the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness.

During the visit, Munir said that use of Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan is "unacceptable and all necessary measures would be taken to neutralise the threat emanating from across the border."

Munir stated, "The use of Afghan soil by terrorists against Pakistan will not be tolerated and all necessary measures will be taken to neutralise threats emanating from across the border."

What is Operation Ghazab lil Haq?

Munir's statement comes days after Pakistan recently launched a major military campaign against Afghanistan known as Operation Ghazab lil Haq (Righteous Fury) on the night of February 26, following alleged Afghan Taliban attacks on 53 locations along the over 2,600 km border.

Munir said that peace could only prevail between both sides if the Afghan Taliban renounced support for terrorism and terrorist organisations.

"Peace can only be maintained between the two sides if the Afghan Taliban renounce terrorism and withdraw support for terrorist organisations," he said.

During the visit, the field marshal was given a comprehensive briefing on the security environment, ongoing intelligence-based operations and measures in place for border management.

And Munir was also briefed in detail on the ongoing operation and recent developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
