Mexico hit by torrential rains: 64 killed, 65 missing (X)

Several people died in Mexico due to rain: The continuous torrential rains since last week have wreaked havoc in Mexico. According to officials, so far 64 people have died due to this rain, and 65 people are missing. Heavy rains also caused landslides at many places, while power supply was disrupted in some municipalities. The water level of many rivers has reached above the danger mark.

Relief and rescue operations

The Mexican government has intensified relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Thousands of personnel have been deployed to help evacuate, clean up and monitor affected areas. Incessant rains have disrupted life in many cities.

Affected states

According to National Civil Protection Coordinator Lara Velazquez, the states of Hidalgo and Veracruz are the most affected. So far, 29 people have been reported dead and 18 missing in Veracruz, while 21 people have died and 43 are missing in Hidalgo. Power supply was disrupted in five other states but has now been restored in most places.

Government's appeal

Officials have appealed to the citizens to remain in their homes and safe places and said that there is a need to remain alert as the rains are still continuing.
