Canada: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said US President Donald Trump's recent tough comments should not be seen as a direct confrontation but as preparation for upcoming trade talks. Speaking to the media on Monday, Carney indicated that such statements were not unusual ahead of talks between the US and Canada.

He said that President Trump is considered a tough and aggressive negotiator, so it is important to understand his words and stance in the broader political and economic context.

Is a review of the USMCA agreement about to begin?

Mark Carney informed that the formal review process of the US-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA) will be started this year. This agreement is the basis of trade between the three countries and negotiations on changing or renewing its rules are considered certain.

According to Carney, for this reason, rhetoric and pressure politics on trade-related issues may intensify in the coming months.

Is America's growing closeness to China making America angry?

Last week, President Trump warned that if Canada pursues a new trade deal with China, the United States could impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on goods coming from Canada. After this statement, speculations regarding the relations between the two countries intensified. However, the Canadian government is currently considering it as a strategy of diplomatic pressure rather than direct confrontation.

Will families troubled by inflation get relief?

Meanwhile, Carney also made an important announcement regarding the rising inflation within the country. He said that the government is taking several steps to make food and daily necessities cheaper for low-income families.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the prices of food items have increased rapidly in recent years, due to which the poor and middle class have been affected the most.

Why is food becoming increasingly expensive?

According to Carney, there are many reasons behind the increase in prices of food items. The onslaught of tariffs, unusual weather conditions caused by climate change and geopolitical tensions globally have severely impacted the supply chain.

He said that due to these reasons, the availability of goods in the market decreases and the cost increases, the direct burden of which falls on the common people. The Canadian government says it will prioritize providing relief to people domestically while balancing international pressures.
