Venezuela: There were reports of sudden firing on Monday around the Miraflores Presidential Palace in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. After this incident tension spread in the entire area. All this happened at a time when the country was already going through political turmoil after the US arrested former President Nicolas Maduro.
According to local and international media, firing suddenly started between security forces deployed near Miraflores Palace. The sounds of gunshots were heard for some time, due to which the people present nearby got scared. During this time, drones were also seen over the President's House.
Government officials said that the situation has been brought under control and the situation is now normal. They claimed that there was no news of any major damage. However, it was not made clear what led to the firing.
The White House has clearly said that America is not involved in this incident. An American official said that they were keeping an eye on the information coming from Caracas, but American forces had no role.
According to a CNN report, this incident may have happened due to a misunderstanding between different security units present near the President's House. However, there has been no official confirmation yet.
According to AFP, some unidentified drones were seen flying over the Miraflores Palace on Monday evening. After this the security forces opened fire as a precaution. Questions still remain on who flew the drones and what their purpose was.
All this happened on the day Delsey Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela's interim president. On the other hand, Nicolás Maduro appeared in the New York court in America, where he is being heard in cases related to drug trafficking.
Maduro denied all charges during his first appearance. He said he was innocent and still considered himself president of Venezuela. The court has fixed the next hearing for March 17.
At present, there is said to be peace in Caracas, but political tension remains. Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodriguez has said that every legal and political avenue will be pursued for Maduro's return. In such a situation, the coming days may be very important for Venezuela.
