Florida: US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that military tension between India and Pakistan reduced after his intervention. During a rally in Miami, Florida, Trump said that he warned both countries to stop trade, after which both backed down and the conflict stopped. Trump even said that in just nine months after becoming president, he “stopped eight wars,” and the ceasefire between India and Pakistan is part of that.

What is Trump's claim?

According to Trump, when India and Pakistan were fighting, he read news in the newspapers that fighter planes were being shot down and the situation had become warlike. He claimed he sent a message to both countries—“America will not make a trade deal if the war continues.” According to Trump, India and Pakistan were shocked to hear this warning and understood that stopping America's trade would be a huge loss. Trump says that the very next day both countries called him and said, “We are ready for peace.”

He also claimed that a total of eight aircraft were shot down in this military tension, whereas earlier he had given the number as seven.

Why was the weapon of tariff used?

Trump said that up to a 50 percent tariff was imposed on India because India imposes the highest taxes on American goods. 19 percent duty was imposed on Pakistan. Trump also cited buying oil from Russia and association with forums like BRICS as the reason for additional tariffs against India. According to Trump, the same tariffs forced India and Pakistan to retreat.

Did India accept this claim?

India has completely rejected Trump's claims many times. In the G7 conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly said that there was no discussion on American mediation or trade deal during the conflict. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that “there were no such discussions between India and the US, nor was any third party included in the India-Pakistan talks.”

How did the conflict begin?

Tensions escalated when India launched 'Operation Sindoor,' in which terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were targeted. This action was taken after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, in which 26 tourists were killed.
