Washington: Amidst the increasing tension between America and Iran, President Donald Trump has openly put forward the possibility of a change of power in Iran. Speaking to reporters after meeting troops at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Trump said a change in leadership in Tehran could be "the best thing."

Trump targeted the current Islamic religious government of Iran and said that for the last 47 years, the system there has been only talking, while during this period there has been huge loss of life in the region. He said that if there is no agreement on the nuclear program, the situation could be “very bad” for Iran. However, he refused to name any possible new leadership.

Is America increasing its military presence?

Amidst the tension, Trump has confirmed to increase American military strength in the Middle East. He said that another aircraft carrier is being sent to the area. The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier, has been headed from the Caribbean to the Middle East. It will work with the already deployed USS Abraham Lincoln.

Trump said that this deployment is being done with the aim of being prepared to deal with any situation. He says that if diplomacy is successful then additional military forces will be withdrawn.

What were the talks with Netanyahu and nuclear deal?

Trump also had a long conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to reports, Netanyahu wants any agreement to include a halt to Iran's ballistic missile program and support to organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

Trump indicated that progress could be made on the nuclear deal in the coming weeks. He said that the agreement should be reached soon.

Has there been any regional situation or protests?

Any military confrontation in the already tense Middle East following the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza could lead to a major regional crisis. Recently, the US Navy shot down an Iranian drone while trying to stop an American ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Raza Pahlavi, living in America, has appealed to intensify anti-government protests in Iran. Describing February 14 as “Global Day of Action”, he called upon people to raise slogans from the rooftops of their houses at 8 pm.

There have been reports of hundreds of people killed and thousands arrested in protests last month in Iran. Human rights organizations say that the actual figures may be higher.
