Trump Says Iran Was Responsible, Shares His ‘Personal’ View (Facebook)
Washington: US President Donald Trump has given a big statement regarding the attack on the Indian captain in the flight to Dubai. Trump said on Monday that he personally believed Iran was responsible for the incident. When reporters outside the White House asked him whether he held Iran responsible for the attack on the plane, Trump replied yes.
The incident came to light on September 30 on flydubai flight FZ1073. In this flight going from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Omani co-pilot Hamam Al-Hamami allegedly attacked Indian Captain Smit Machchhar, who was present in the cockpit. According to the report, during the attack the captain was attacked with an axe, and an attempt was also made to bring down the plane.
Captain Smit Machchhar was seriously injured in the attack. Despite this, he opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers and an off-duty crew member to enter. After this Hamami was brought under control.
During the attack, the plane descended rapidly and went down approximately 16 thousand feet in about two minutes. After this, an emergency signal related to hijacking was sent and the plane was diverted and made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. All 180 people on board the plane got out safely.
A report in The Times of Israel published on Sunday claimed that Hamami's alleged plan was to direct the plane to Israel's Ben Gurion Airport. The report also said that Hamami is being detained and interrogated in the UAE.
According to the report, during interrogation he allegedly said that after controlling the captain, he would fly the plane normally, get the necessary landing clearance and then crash the plane into any airport facility or an aircraft parked there.
There has been a lot of discussion about the role of Captain Smit Machchhar in saving the plane from the accident during the incident. During treatment, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to him through video conference and described him as 'hero of Israel, India and the world'.
After this, the Israeli government has also officially invited Smit Machchhar and his family to participate in Israel's Independence Day celebrations to be held in May 2027.
