Dubai: Several Indian workers died and many others were injured in a severe road accident on Dubai's Emirates Road on Monday. According to Dubai Police, a minibus carrying workers collided with a truck that had broken down and was stationary in the middle of the road. Seven people lost their lives in the accident, while nine others sustained injuries.

Why did the accident happen?

Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck had stopped in the middle of the road due to a technical fault. The approaching minibus failed to spot the truck in time and crashed into it. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police, stated that the cause of the accident is being investigated.

He noted that initial findings suggest the driver did not exercise sufficient caution and failed to maintain a safe distance, leading the minibus to collide with the rear of the truck.

What did Indian Consulate do?

The Indian Consulate in Dubai has expressed deep sorrow over the accident and assured all possible assistance to those affected. In a statement issued on the social media platform X, the Consulate said, "We are deeply saddened by the news of the deaths of several Indian workers in this tragic road accident in Dubai."

The Consulate stated that its officials have visited the hospital to check on the injured and remain in constant contact with local authorities. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families during this difficult time," the statement added. Authorities have not yet disclosed the total number of workers on board the minibus at the time of the accident.
