Mexico City: A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck near Puerto Madero, Mexico, on Friday. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake's epicenter was near Puerto Madero. The USGS reported that the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, causing the tremors to be felt intensely.

Preliminary reports indicate that tremors were felt in several surrounding areas as well. So far, there have been no official reports of major damage to life or property, nor any casualties. Local authorities are assessing the situation, and relief and rescue agencies have been put on alert.

Relevant agencies are also evaluating whether there is any risk of a tsunami following the earthquake. Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and follow instructions issued by the local administration.

Earlier on Thursday, strong tremors were felt in New Zealand's South Island. The earthquake measured 6.3 on the Richter scale, and authorities had issued a tsunami warning. Reports state that the epicenter was approximately 40 kilometers north of the town of Te Anau. This area is considered the gateway to the famous tourist destination of Fiordland.

Did earthquakes hit Gujarat?

Meanwhile, two earthquake tremors were felt within a span of three minutes in the Kutch district of Gujarat, India, on Thursday. According to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), Gandhinagar, the first tremor—measuring 3.6 in magnitude—occurred at 2:20 PM, with its epicenter 32 kilometers northeast of Khavda. Three minutes later, at 2:23 PM, a second tremor of magnitude 3.2 struck, with its epicenter recorded 32 kilometers west-northwest of Dholavira.
