Iran’s Nuclear Site Is Like a Mysterious Cave — How Could the U.S. Destroy It? (Image: Meta AI)
With the tension between Iran and Israel increasing, everyone's eyes are once again fixed on Iran's most secure and mysterious nuclear site, the Fordo Enrichment Facility. The US has also said that it is considering a direct military attack on this place, although the final decision has not been taken yet. At the same time, John Sawers, the former head of Britain's intelligence agency MI6, has publicly said that the US should destroy Iran's deepest nuclear sites.
Khusro Isfahani, an expert associated with the Washington DC think tank National Union for Democracy in Iran, also said that removing Iran's nuclear threat will give the world a better chance to control the Islamic regime. Recently, Iranian media had reported explosions near the Fordo site, but these have not been confirmed yet.
Let us know some important things related to the Fordo nuclear site. Why are the US and Israel keeping an eye on it? Iran's most mysterious nuclear site hidden under a hill
Fordo is Iran's second-largest uranium enrichment facility. It is located under a hill 32 kilometres from the holy city of Qom and 95 kilometres southwest of Tehran. Its most special feature is that it is hidden 80 metres deep, which makes it almost impossible to blow it up with normal bombing. The construction of this site began secretly in 2006, and it was revealed in 2009, after which Iran was criticised a lot.
Israel considers Iran's nuclear program a threat to its existence. Places like Fordo and Natanz are the first to come on its target. Earlier Iran's Revolutionary Guard was deployed here, and it was protected by Iranian-Russian air defence. Recently it was said that this security system has been disabled in Israeli attacks, due to which Fordo is now more exposed.
Experts believe that America is the only country in the world with a weapon that can destroy a deeply hidden site like Fordow, a 13,000 kg bunker buster bomb named GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator. This bomb can also penetrate mountain rocks. Israel has GBU-28 bombs, which are effective only up to a depth of 6 metres but are insufficient for a site like Fordow.
However, an American official told that during a closed-door meeting, Trump asked officials whether the bunker buster bomb would destroy Fordow. On this, the Pentagon assured that yes, it is possible. Although the bunker buster bomb has not been used in any war so far, of course, it was tested several times during its construction, but whether it will complete its task in Iran is a big question. That is, if this bomb fails, America will be stuck in war for a long time.
Initially, uranium was enriched in Fordo up to only 5% purity. But in 2019, President Hassan Rouhani announced he would fill uranium gas here again. Now, according to the IAEA, uranium is being enriched up to 60% in Fordo, which is very close to the level of direct weapon production (90%). Advanced IR-6 centrifuges and uranium hexafluoride gas are present here, due to which Iran can prepare enough fuel for a bomb in 5-6 days. jdfgndfg io u huter sdbr usdf dfyhbberbbuiu sjhybngek sdjsdf sdfinnsdfb ofg the infia ihi ingdfg uie
