Davos (Switzerland): US President Donald Trump has united the various nations of Europe, most of whom have been American allies since the Second World War, against him by threatening to seize Greenland. European leaders have openly begun criticizing Donald Trump. On one hand, Donald Trump has threatened to impose an additional 10 percent import tax on eight European countries, while France has also threatened retaliatory action.

What warning has Emmanuel Macron delivered to Donald Trump?

“If the US takes such a step, then we will also take similar retaliatory measures. European leaders are also criticizing Trump, saying that he has undermined international laws,” French President Emmanuel Macron said.

Emmanuel Macron said that attempts are being made to impose domineering politics in the world today. He said that the situation has become such that disputes have become commonplace.

"Today, global politics has reached a point where international laws are being trampled upon. It seems that only the strongest prevail. Without collective cooperation, there will be a situation of unpredictable competition," he said.

He said that it seems there is an attempt to weaken Europe. He said that endless tariffs are being imposed, which cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

What did Emmanuel Macron tell Vladimir Putin?

Not only this, Macron also criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin in addition to Trump. He said that he too wants imperial expansion. He jokingly said that almost 60 wars took place around the world in 2024 alone. Only a few of these wars have ended. He said that Europe will not bow down to anyone.

“If someone imposes tariffs against us, then we will also retaliate. If the rules of the game are not being followed by the other side, then why should we? We will not hesitate to take strong steps either,” he said.

What argument has Trump given for taking over Greenland?

Donald Trump has suggested that the United States should acquire Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark. He argues that if the US doesn't take control of the territory, then Russia and China might. He claims that doing so is necessary for US national security. Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, responded to this. He said that international law is not a game. What Donald Trump is doing is breaking all the rules of the world. If this continues, alliances around the world will break down, and that would be a very bad situation.
