International News: Amid the ongoing tariff dispute between the United States and India, an important diplomatic statement has emerged. After meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gor said that President Donald Trump considers Modi a "special friend." Gor, considered one of Trump's closest allies, has significant implications for the future of relations between the two countries. Gor is currently on a six-day visit to India with Deputy Secretary of Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas, during which they are interacting with senior Indian officials.

Modi-Gor meeting and ex-post

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also responded to the meeting. He wrote on Twitter that Sergio Gor's tenure in India would further deepen the India-US partnership. PM Modi said he was delighted to welcome Ambassador Gor. Gor, meanwhile, described the meeting as "incredible" and said that he and Modi discussed key topics such as defense, trade, and technology.

Discussions on important issues

Gore, detailing his talks, said that India and the United States also shared views on the importance of critical minerals. Furthermore, the two countries held extensive discussions on defense, technology, and trade. Gore also clarified that the United States considers its relationship with India to be strategically important.

Meeting with high-level Indian officials

During his visit to India, Gore also met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra. He stated that these discussions paved the way for further broadening the partnership between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry's response

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also described Gore's meeting as productive. He said the two countries held serious discussions on the comprehensive global strategic partnership and shared priorities. The Indian side wished Gore well in his new responsibilities.

Background to the trade dispute

Despite these positive signals, however, tensions have recently emerged on the trade front. President Trump's decision to impose tariffs of up to 50 percent on Indian goods strained relations between New Delhi and Washington. He also imposed a 25 percent tariff on purchases of Russian crude oil. India has criticized these measures as unfair and unreasonable.

US-India Ties Gain Momentum

Experts believe that Gore's visit and his meeting with Modi could be a significant step toward resolving differences between the two countries. It will be interesting to see in the coming months whether the US and India can put aside their trade disputes and elevate their strategic partnership to new heights.
