India, Airspace
International News: Indian Airspace Shut for Pakistan: A week after the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India has reacted strictly and closed its airspace for all aircraft operated or registered from Pakistan. This ban includes not only commercial but also military aircraft. India has formally issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) regarding this decision, which will be effective from April 30 to May 23, 2025.
This decision has been taken after the terror attack in which terrorists opened fire on innocent civilians in Pahalgam on April 22, killing 26 people. Since then, aircraft operated by Pakistan started keeping away from Indian airspace, but now India has officially closed it.
Under the NOTAM issued by India, now any aircraft registered, operated or leased from Pakistan will not be able to use Indian airspace. This will directly affect Pakistan's commercial airlines, which will now be forced to take a longer route to reach countries in Southeast Asia like Kuala Lumpur.
According to officials, now Pakistan's commercial aircraft will have to travel through the airspace of China or Sri Lanka instead of India. This will increase both their operating time and fuel costs.
This ban is part of a series of actions taken by India after the Pahalgam terror attack. Earlier, India had suspended the Indus Water Treaty and linked its restoration to the condition of Pakistan ending cross-border terrorism.
Apart from this, India has also closed the Integrated Check Post at Attari-Wagah border. Also, Pakistani citizens who have entered India with valid documents have been instructed to leave the country within a certain time limit. India has canceled all visas issued to Pakistani citizens and now Pakistanis are not allowed to travel under the SAARC visa exemption scheme.
