New Delhi. The 23rd round of Corps Commander-level talks between India and China concluded on Wednesday. This meeting is considered crucial for resolving the remaining issues of the border dispute between the two countries. According to a press release issued by the Indian Foreign Ministry, the talks took place in a positive atmosphere, and both sides emphasized maintaining peace and stability in the border areas.
Representatives from both countries held detailed discussions on remaining issues in disputed areas, including eastern Ladakh. During the talks, agreement was reached to enhance mutual trust and strengthen border management. This meeting is being seen as another step in improving relations between the two countries. Earlier this week, direct flight services between India and China resumed for the first time since 2020.
Relations between India and China became significantly strained after the bloody clash between the two countries' militaries in the Galwan Valley in 2020. Two meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping within the past year have significantly de-escalated tensions. Special Representative-level talks have also begun to find a permanent solution to the border dispute.
China has allowed Indian pilgrims to travel to Mansarovar. India has also resumed issuing visas to Chinese citizens. However, there are still some differences between the two countries regarding military deployments in some areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Military commander-level talks have taken place after almost a year.
The Indian side was led by the Commander of the Leh-based 14th Corps, while the Chinese side was led by the Commander of the South Xinjiang Military District. Both sides agreed to continue such talks in the future. The Ministry of External Affairs has repeatedly clarified that a complete resolution of the border dispute will be achieved in accordance with the sovereignty and security interests of both countries.
