Donald Trump’s Threat Falls Flat? Iran Targets US Military Bases In Kuwait With Drone Attack

Washington: The tension between America and Iran has again reached dangerous levels. Just a day after Donald Trump's strict warning, Iran attacked US military bases in Kuwait with drones. After this attack, there has been an increase in unrest throughout West Asia. On one hand the military movement is intense, while on the other hand talks are going on behind the scenes regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Now the biggest question is whether this US-Iran conflict will escalate further or if there will be a solution through talks?

What happened in Kuwait?

According to media reports, Iran's Revolutionary Guard IRGC sent 3 drones to target American bases in Kuwait. During this time, sounds of explosions were also heard in Kuwait and Basra of Iraq. Iranian media has also confirmed these explosions. 

Along with this, the news of attack on a merchant ship in the sea near Oman has further increased the concern regarding maritime security.

What did Trump say?

Just before the attack, Trump had said that this was the last chance for talks with Iran. He claimed that the US Navy is fully deployed in the Strait of Hormuz and only America will protect the ships passing through there. Trump had also said that at present efforts are being made to find a diplomatic solution by stopping new military attacks.

How did Iran respond?

Iran reversed course a few hours after Trump's statement. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghai clearly said that no direct or indirect talks are taking place with America. He described all the reports of talks as "baseless".

Why is the Strait of Hormuz so important?

Because most of the world's oil passes through this route. If something goes wrong here, the entire world's oil supply could be disrupted. At present Oman and Pakistan are mediating on this issue. It is reported that Iran has shown a slightly softer attitude than before and there is scope for an agreement on the movement of ships.

The strange thing is that despite increasing tension, oil became cheaper. Brent crude fell nearly 5% to around 80 dollars a barrel. The market feels that if Hormuz remains open, the supply will not be affected.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that America's first priority is to stop Iran from making a nuclear bomb. At the same time, they want ships to pass smoothly from Hormuz and tension in the area to be reduced.
