Iran has conducted the funeral rites for its military commanders and nuclear scientists who were killed in the ongoing conflict with Israel. A massive crowd gathered for the final journey of the deceased, showing deep public emotion and national solidarity.

On Friday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian took part in the funeral procession in Tehran to pay tribute to those whom Iranian authorities described as "martyrs of the Israeli attack." The procession followed reports of an Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) operation allegedly targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Although independent confirmation of the claim is lacking, the news has significantly intensified regional tensions.

President Pezeshkian Sends a Strong Message

During the ceremony, President Pezeshkian honored the fallen and declared, “Iran will deliver a strong response to any foreign aggression. We are committed to defending our country’s sovereignty and our people.” Thousands in the crowd chanted slogans like “Death to Israel” and called for strong retaliatory action.

Amid rising concerns, media reports and security analysts have raised questions about the safety of the Iranian President, especially in light of the claim that Israel targeted the Supreme Leader. In recent years, the shadow war between Israel and Iran has escalated, involving assassinations of scientists, military strikes, and cyber warfare.

Heightened Security for Iran's Leadership

Iran's security agencies have heightened protective measures for the President and other top leaders. Additional military forces have been deployed in Tehran and other key cities. Government buildings are under tight security, and officials have assured the public that the President remains safe and that the country is on high alert to handle any potential threat.

Tensions Surge in West Asia

The incident has deepened tensions across West Asia. Iran-backed groups such as Hezbollah and Yemen's Houthi rebels condemned the attack and issued warnings of retaliation. Israel has not released any official statement regarding the incident. Experts believe that if Iran’s allegations are proven true, it could further deteriorate Iran-Israel relations and potentially push the region toward a new conflict. Public anger is clearly visible, with citizens demanding an immediate response.

Top Iranian Generals Killed

During the 12-day war with Israel, several top Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists were killed. On Saturday, thousands of people gathered in Tehran to attend their funeral procession. Coffins were carried on trucks along Tehran’s Azadi Street, bearing the bodies of IRGC Chief General Hossein Salami, ballistic missile program head General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, and other officials. Both Salami and Hajizadeh were killed on June 13, the first day of the conflict, when Israel launched a major military campaign aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear program. The operation targeted military commanders, scientists, and nuclear facilities. According to Iranian state TV, funerals were held for a total of 60 people on Saturday, including four women and four children. Government offices were closed to allow employees to participate in the ceremony.
