Islamabad: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was in Pakistan on Tuesday for a one-day visit amidst ongoing peace talks. During the visit, he met with Pakistan's top leadership and deliberated on regional developments as well as the ongoing peace negotiations involving the US. President Pezeshkian reiterated Tehran's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and regional peace.
While meeting Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan's efforts regarding the Iran-US talks and reaffirmed Iran's dedication to bolstering bilateral relations and regional stability. Zardari expressed hope that the ongoing dialogue would play a pivotal role in establishing peace in the region. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was also present to welcome Pezeshkian. The Iranian President arrived at Pakistan's Nur Khan Airbase; as his aircraft entered Pakistani airspace, JF-17 Thunder fighter jets provided a security escort. This marked the Iranian President's first visit to Pakistan following the recent conflict.
Before departing for Pakistan, Pezeshkian stated that the visit's objective was to ensure the full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in accordance with international law. This agreement is expected to help strengthen stability and security in West Asia. In a post on X, he noted that the success of the talks would depend on the faithful and precise adherence to agreed-upon obligations.
The Iranian President also met with Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir. Discussions covered several key points. A statement from the Pakistan Army noted that, amidst current geopolitical challenges, the peaceful resolution of disputes remains a top priority for Iran. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations, sharing a common goal of promoting peace, prosperity, and stability in the region.
