Fear Grips Travel Industry as Iran Hints at Targeting Global Tourist Attractions (Image Courtesy: Instagram)
Iran: It has been more than three weeks since the conflict started in the Middle East, but instead of calming down, the situation is becoming more dangerous. A recent big statement from Iran is worrying security agencies around the world. Now there is a fear that this fight will not be limited only to military bases, but its impact may also reach common citizens.
On Friday, a senior Iranian military spokesperson, General Abolfazl Shekarchi, clearly said that now their retaliation will not be limited to enemy military targets only. He said that even parks, entertainment venues, resorts and tourist centers around the world would not be safe for their enemies. This statement has come at a time when US and Israeli air strikes have caused huge damage to Iran's army and leadership. Many experts fear that Iran may now use proxy groups or hidden attackers to attack soft targets in different parts of the world, especially where there are large crowds.
Meanwhile, America is also intensifying its preparations. The Pentagon has decided to send more warships and marine troops to West Asia. According to reports, around 2,500 additional Marines are going along with amphibious assault ships like the USS Tripoli and a few more warships. Even before this, deployment was increased in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, where Iran is disturbing oil supply and shipping. It seems the US is preparing for any eventuality – whether a protracted war or a sudden major escalation.
On one hand, military power is increasing, while on the other hand, a statement from President Donald Trump is in the headlines. He said on social media that his administration is seriously considering ending the ongoing military operations in the Middle East. He even said that the security of places like the Strait of Hormuz can now be handed over to other countries, which take oil from there. But at the same time new troops and ships are being sent, due to which the signals seem mixed. There is talk of de-escalation on one side and reinforcement on the other side – this is causing a lot of confusion among analysts and allied countries.
The current situation is no longer just regional. If Iran's threats come true, tourism, travel, oil prices and global security could be affected. Many countries are already tightening security at airports, tourist spots and public places. Hopefully diplomacy will work and things will be stopped before they get worse, otherwise the lives of millions of people could be affected. Right now everyone's eyes are fixed on what happens next.
