Washington: The US Justice Department has said that it may take a few more weeks to complete the public release of all documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. This process has gone beyond the December 19 deadline set by Congress. The department says that recently more than 10 lakh new documents related to the case have been found, which were not included in the list earlier. These documents have been identified by the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and the FBI.

Why was the deadline missed?

According to the Justice Department, it was unexpected for such a large document collection to emerge simultaneously. Officials say teams are working around the clock to ensure proper removal of critical components, which may contain personal information. The department also said that the documents will be issued as soon as possible, but the quality will not be compromised.

What is the political pressure?

Just hours before the delay was announced, about a dozen senators sent a letter to the Justice Department's watchdog raising questions. They argue that victims have a right to know the truth, and the delay casts doubt on transparency. He said an independent investigation would provide reassurance that the processes were being carried out properly.

Meanwhile, Republican MP Thomas Massey alleged on social media that the department had violated the law by missing the deadline and that the redactions made in some documents were also against the rules.

What has been released so far?

The Justice Department has so far released the documents in part. These include photographs, excerpts from interviews, call records, and court documents. However, at many places names, places, and references have been removed, due to which the complete picture is not clear. Some new documents have also emerged that contain statements from young women who claimed that they were paid in exchange for sexual acts for Epstein.

What is expected next?

The department has not clarified when the next set will be released and whether all the content will be public. Even years after Epstein's death, many aspects of the case remain questions for the public and politicians. Especially whose names are included in this investigation and how the case was handled earlier.
