Washington: Retired US Colonel Douglas Macgregor has once again stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is uniquely positioned to play a constructive role in brokering a ceasefire in the potential conflict between the US, Israel and Iran. Speaking to the news agency ANI, Macgregor categorically asserted that it is difficult to place trust in Pakistan's offer of assistance, as the country itself constitutes a major problem. Questioning the credibility of Pakistan's mediation proposal, he remarked that any such offer from Islamabad would not be deemed trustworthy.
Amidst escalating global tensions, Colonel Douglas Macgregor made these pointed observations regarding the crisis in West Asia and the diplomatic efforts currently underway to resolve it. Macgregor stated, "For Pakistan to offer help is akin to a person trapped inside a burning building offering to give you a room to stay in." He further added, "The Israelis will not view Pakistan through an impartial lens; rather, they will perceive Pakistan as an integral part of the very problem itself."
Highlighting Prime Minister Modi's robust global standing, the former U.S. military official unequivocally declared, "Prime Minister Modi is the only figure truly positioned to provide meaningful assistance, support, and aid." He noted that even within the United States, individuals such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are primarily viewed as agents of Israel. Addressing inquiries regarding the assistance Iran is receiving from Russia and China, he made a significant claim: "Chinese and Russian satellites are providing imagery to Iran, which the country is utilizing in conjunction with its tactical ballistic missiles capable of striking targets up to a thousand miles away."
McGregor's remarks come at a time when tensions in West Asia are at their peak. Several nations are attempting to mediate, and the global balance of power is shifting rapidly. Nevertheless, while McGregor's statements may represent his personal opinion, they certainly signal that the politics of mediation has evolved beyond mere diplomacy; it has now become a battle of trust and global image.
Just a few days ago, in an interview with American political activist and commentator Tucker Carlson, McGregor stated that continued U.S. interference in the Israel-Iran conflict would have severe economic repercussions. He also suggested that the United States should seek a mediator like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the time, he noted that PM Modi enjoys not only strong relations with Israel but also excellent ties with Iran. Furthermore, he maintains reasonably good relations with both Russia and China. This is precisely why he could play a constructive role in helping to avert a war with Iran.
It is worth noting that retired Colonel Douglas McGregor is a U.S. Army veteran, author, and defense advisor known for his often controversial views on foreign policy, military strategy, and geopolitical analysis. He participated in the 1991 Gulf War and later served as an advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Defense. He frequently garners attention for his opinions regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. McGregor also played a role in planning the 1999 air campaign in Kosovo.
