US to Supply AIM-120 Missiles to Pakistan: The United States has approved the sale of AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range (AMRAAM) air-to-air missiles to Pakistan. This move signals a renewed military cooperation between the two countries. India has drawn particular attention because the new missiles will enhance the operational capabilities of Pakistan's F-16 fleet and are seen as an attempt to counter India's Rafale jets.

According to an official document released by Washington, Pakistan will receive AIM-120D-3 missiles by 2030. This supply is part of a broader list of arms sales to US allies and partners.

Highlights

The AIM-120D-3 missile is the latest and most advanced version of the AMRAAM family. It is designed to engage enemy aircraft and missiles beyond visual range. Defense analysts say that this missile will increase the accuracy and operational range of Pakistan's F-16 fleet, and it will be able to better respond to air threats.

Pakistan was for a long time trying to buy new generation AMRAAM to replace its old AIM-120C-5 variants. Pakistan received the older AIM-120 missiles with F-16 Block 52 aircraft in 2010. India's air fleet modernization and Operation Sindoor have increased Pakistan's need for new missiles.

Preparing to Counter Rafale

India has increased the strength of its air force in recent years and has equipped Rafael jets with mature missiles. This step of Pakistan is considered an attempt to strengthen its aerial power compared to Rafael.

The decision came a few months after the US aid in repairing the F-16 jet damaged during Operation Sindoor. Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir has held several meetings with US President Donald Trump and senior defense officials. American experts believe that this step has been taken to prevent China's influence in South Asia and maintain strategic balance.
