Pakistani Students in US
International News: These days, US President Donald Trump seems to be adopting a soft stance on Pakistan. For example, lesser tariffs were imposed on Pakistan compared to India, and the Balochistan Liberation Army was declared a terrorist organization. But meanwhile, different news has come. Actually Pakistani students studying in America are worried these days. The reason is the new step of the Trump administration, under which social media posts and even small activities are being monitored. Due to this, the students are afraid that their visa may get cancelled.
The US government is now investigating social media in depth. If any post is found to be against America, its government, culture, or institutions, then it can become a threat to the visa. Not only this, but incomplete documents or breaking the rules can also create problems.
According to media reports, now breaking traffic rules, protesting on college campuses, or even small disputes can reach the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) directly. Recently, a Virginia court told Pakistani students that now traffic records will be sent to DHS.
Yunus Khan (a student from Baltimore) said he was planning to go to Chicago but has now been advised to postpone the trip because even a small mistake can lead to visa cancellation. Samina Ali says she and her friends participated in pro-Palestine demonstrations. Now they fear they may be deported.
Mohammad Sajid (George Mason University) says that it has become difficult to do a part-time job along with studies. The Pakistani Embassy in Washington is keeping an eye on this situation. The embassy is telling the students to be cautious in political activities. Especially avoid demonstrations and any statements on social media.
Around 7 to 10 lakh Pakistanis live in America. Most of them have been living there for a long time or have become American citizens. But the environment has become quite uncertain for the newly arrived students and work visa holders. The bottom line is that due to American strictness, a feeling of fear and insecurity is increasing among Pakistani students. Now, along with studies, they have to be cautious at every small step.
