New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on Saturday over the deaths of Indian citizens in a boat accident in Vietnam and stated that the Indian Embassy is providing all possible assistance. According to Vietnamese media reports, 15 Indian tourists died in the incident that occurred on Saturday.

What did PM Modi say?

In a post on 'X', PM Modi said, "Deeply saddened by the tragic news of the boat accident involving Indian citizens near Phu Quoc, Vietnam." The Prime Minister added that the Indian Embassy and Consulate are extending all possible help. He stated, "Our officials are also in close contact with Vietnamese authorities."

Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, PM Modi prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured survivors. At the time of the accident, the speedboat was carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members. The Vietnamese news portal VNExpress International reported that the boat capsized approximately 400 meters off Hon Me Rut Ngoi, an island in the An Thoi archipelago near Phu Quoc. Prime Minister Modi departed for home on Saturday after concluding a two-day visit to New Zealand.

What did the Congress say?

Meanwhile, the Congress urged the Ministry of External Affairs to provide all possible assistance to the families of the Indian tourists missing following the boat capsizing incident near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. Pawan Khera, the head of the party's media and publicity department, said in a post on 'X' that the Indian Embassy in Vietnam has released the names of the 32 Indian tourists who were on board the boat that capsized near Phu Quoc Island a few hours earlier. He noted that further details regarding the incident are awaited and urged the Ministry of External Affairs to provide all possible support to the families of the Indian tourists who remain untraced. Khera said, "We stand with the families of the missing Indian tourists and pray for the safety of the tourists."
